Job Description

Teaching Assistant

A part time teaching assistant is required to work mornings only at a school in East London. The successful candidates will be working on a one-to-one basis with a child with autism in a nursery class 15 hours per week.

Smart Teachers is looking for TAs with one-to-one experience working in a mainstream or special needs school. You will be familiar working with children on the Autistic Spectrum and your genuine passion for working with children with special needs will be apparent. You will be confident in your ability to providing a high quality educational experience.

Preferred candidates will have gained additional training in working with special needs and will have a strong understanding of MAKATON and PECS in addition.

To apply, you must meet the following criteria:

-          Eligible to work in the UK

-          6 months UK experience as a teaching assistant working with children with special needs

-          NVQ in childcare or qualified to Degree Level 

-          Proven track record and experience supporting SEN pupils

-          Exceptional communication skills

-          Good knowledge of the UK Curriculum

-          Recent references and a valid CRB/police checks

-          Above average organisational skills with the ability to work on your own and as part of a team

-          The ability to quickly adapt to a new environment and fully understand the values and beliefs of the school
